About ACS-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist Joseph Maher from Colorado
Joe Maher is a respected trial attorney known for his skilled defense of clients facing DUI and criminal charges in Colorado Springs. Voted by his peers as one of the city’s top DUI defense attorneys in Colorado Springs Magazine for 2023, 2024, and 2025, Joe brings exceptional experience and determination to every client’s case.
Joe and his wife Kimberly founded Maher & Maher Law PC in 2017 – they’ve been on a mission ever since. The firm represents Colorado clients charged with driving under the influence (DUI), felony and misdemeanor matters, and personal injury cases.
Prior to founding Maher & Maher Law, Joe served five years as a Deputy District Attorney in El Paso County, where he tried DUI cases, trained DUI prosecutors, and served on the DA’s Vehicular Homicide Team. Having tried more than 70 jury trials as both prosecutor and defense counsel, Joe brings professional insight and a proven ability to succeed in the courtroom.
Joe’s professional passion is DUI defense. His DUI defense training includes completion of the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Detection Participant Course, the SFST Instructor Development Course, and the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course. He has earned the ACS Forensic Lawyer-Scientist Designation as recognized by the Chemistry and the Law Division of the ACS.
Before attending law school on the GI Bill, Joe served as a U.S. Marine Corps Captain. He commanded two platoons and a company of Marines during three deployments to Iraq. He was awarded the Marine Corps Association’s Chambers Award for leadership. He also served as a Deputy Legislative Assistant for military and veterans’ affairs to U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel.
Joe’s experiences as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer, legislative staff member, and DUI defense attorney have forged his unwavering respect for the U.S. Constitution and his belief that the rights it protects must be defended vigorously in every individual case.
