John M. Cook is a graduate of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL, where he majored in Law Enforcement and minored in English and was on the Dean’s List. While at JSU, he interned with the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office. He received his law degree from the South Texas College of Law in Houston, TX, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi, an honorary legal fraternity. While at the South Texas College of Law, John M. Cook received the American Jurisprudence Award for Criminal Procedure and was on the Dean’s List. While at South Texas, he interned with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Cook was a police officer for 6 years with the City of Mesquite, Texas Police Department, and spent the last two years as a Detective in the criminal investigations division.

Mr. Cook is Board Certified in Criminal Law, a distinction that includes less than 1% of criminal defense attorneys in the State of Texas. He has been recognized as one of the top DWI lawyers by the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers and D Magazine. Mr. Cook is a founding member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA). He is also a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Mr. Cook served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office after graduating from law school where he prosecuted cases from DWI to Murder. He is now in private practice and defends criminal cases of all kinds in state and federal courts throughout Texas. John M. Cook’s depth of experience in criminal defense matters, especially DWI matters, has resulted in him giving lectures to other attorneys on such subjects as jury selection, cross examination of the arresting officer, and blood testing.
